gcci announces gujarat sustainability summit 2026 in ahmedabad
Ahmedabad | May 2026: As India races toward its climate and development goals, Gujarat is preparing to put sustainability at the centre of industrial growth. The Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has announced the second edition of the Gujarat Sustainability Summit 2026 (GSS 2026), scheduled for 15 May 2026 at Soulinaire.
The summit aims to create a roadmap for sustainable economic growth while positioning Gujarat as a national benchmark for industry-led climate action.
Gujarat’s Sustainability Push Gets a Bigger Platform
The announcement was made in the presence of Shri Sandeep Engineer, President, GCCI, who shared his vision of transforming Gujarat into a model state for sustainable industrial development. Also present were Shri Apurva Shah, Vice President, GCCI, and Shri Gaurang Bhagat, Hon. Treasurer, GCCI.
Organised by the GCCI ESG Task Force under the leadership of Shri Sameer Sinha, Chairman, Environmental, Social and Governance Task Force, GGSS 2026 will revolve around the theme:
“Gujarat: India’s Engine for Sustainable Growth — Charting the Course to 2047 & 2070 | Where Profit Meets Purpose”
The theme reflects a growing shift in corporate India — where sustainability is no longer viewed as a compliance checkbox, but as a long-term business strategy.
Why This Summit Matters
Gujarat has long been recognised as one of India’s strongest industrial states. But with rising climate risks, mounting pressure on urban infrastructure, and global ESG expectations shaping investment decisions, industries are being pushed to rethink their growth models.
GGSS 2026 plans to bring together policymakers, business leaders, climate experts, startups, urban planners, and academic institutions on a single platform to discuss practical, scalable solutions.

The Summit is being organised in collaboration with leading institutions, including: Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), TERI – The Energy and Resources Institute, WRI India
Climate Policy Initiative, Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, CEPT University and i-Hub Gujarat. This collaboration signals an attempt to bridge policy, research, finance, and implementation — something sustainability conversations in India often struggle with.
Key Focus Areas at GGSS 2026
The summit will focus on some of the most pressing themes shaping India’s green transition:
- Green Finance
- Sustainable Infrastructure & Urban Development
- Indian Carbon Markets
- Climate-Tech Innovation & Startups
- Gender Equality & Inclusive Leadership
- Industrial Decarbonization Strategies
These discussions are expected to explore how Gujarat’s industries and cities can remain globally competitive while reducing environmental impact.
Ahmedabad’s Growing ESG Conversation
Ahmedabad has increasingly emerged as a hub for conversations around urban innovation, climate resilience, and sustainable infrastructure. With institutions like IIMA and CEPT already driving research and policy dialogue, GGSS 2026 could become an important meeting point between industry and sustainability practitioners.
The timing is also significant. India’s net-zero target for 2070 and the push toward Viksit Bharat 2047 are forcing states and industries to move from intent to implementation.
For Gujarat — a state known for manufacturing, ports, chemicals, energy, and infrastructure — the challenge now is not just growth, but sustainable growth.
